The 2025 Michigan Social Studies Olympiad invites students on an immersive journey through Michigan's rich heritage with the theme, "Exploring Michigan's Rich History: From Great Lakes to Great Leaders." This year’s competition encourages participants to dive deep into the fascinating stories that have shaped the state, from the powerful natural beauty of the Great Lakes that defined its early industries to the influential leaders who brought Michigan to prominence. Students will uncover Michigan’s diverse past, examining the cultural and economic impacts of various communities, the rise of industry, Michigan’s agricultural impact, and the inspiring lives of leaders, innovators, and change makers. With this theme, students will not only learn about Michigan’s contributions to the nation but will also gain a greater appreciation for the state's role in shaping America's identity.
