Participants will receive a copy of The Civically Engaged Classroom: Reading, Writing, and Speaking for Change, which is “packed with practical guidance designed to support teachers in giving students the skills, knowledge, and tools to be active participants in society”. Intentional connections will also be made to the Essential Instructional Practices for Disciplinary Literacy in Grades 6 to 12 in order to extend and expand students’ ability to think critically and communicate effectively like historians, geographers, economists, and social scientists. Learning will be facilitated by Rebecca Baker-Bush, Social Studies Consultant and MCSS President-Elect and Jenelle Williams, Literacy Consultant and Co-Chair of the Disciplinary Literacy Task Force.
